The Mission

The Econometric Society Interdisciplinary Frontiers (ESIF) and CEPR conference on Economics+Climate Science, will be run in conjunction with and will be hosted by the Barcelona School of Economics, in Barcelona, on March 27-28.

The purpose of the meeting is to foster interaction of ideas and methodologies from the areas of Climate Science and Economics. The conference will feature keynote lectures and parallel sessions, bringing together scholars from both fields.

The main goal of the conference is to bring together climate researchers and economists to advance our common understanding of major research and policy gaps in mitigation actions, and to foster ideas and work surrounding implementation of mitigation actions and policies. Key examples are how to speed up the energy transition and deal with its bottlenecks, how to direct efforts to hard-to-abate sectors, how to induce effective and faster behavioral change, and how nature based solutions can be effectively activated.

Paper submissions

The deadline for submissions is January 7, 2025. Interested authors are encouraged to submit unpublished working papers or early drafts (more than 5 pages with results). Preference in the selection process will be given to complete papers. Groups of authors can submit entire sessions, but each paper will be evaluated on its own merits. Papers and drafts can only be submitted electronically in pdf format through the Conference Maker website at https://editorialexpress.com/conference/ESIFCLIM.

Submissions are open to research that overlaps with both Economics and Climate Science. Each submission must select at least one content area from the drop down menu in Conference Maker (https://editorialexpress.com/conference/ESIFCLIM). Members of the Econometric Society please ensure that you use the email associated with your Econometric Society account. Anyone may also join the Econometric Society by going to https://www.econometricsociety.org/membership/join-renew. Note that the areas are partially overlapping; if in doubt, authors are advised to select those area(s) that best fit their paper.
